Vargas Museum: "The Crux of Things" by Ernest Concepcion and "Filipino Myths and Legends" by CANVAS

Thanks to Facebook events, I had the chance to attend the opening of 2 exhibits in Vargas Museum on June 17 namely "The Crux of Things" by Ernest Concepcion and "Filipino Myths and Legends" by CANVAS.

I was 'invited' by the tarps around the Acad Oval which are like snippets of the exhibition by canvas.ph.

One of the enticing tarps. More enticing are the photos of the artworks!
I'm so glad that I went to the exhibit because the artworks are truly more awesome and enchanting in person.
On my way

 Filipino Myths and Legends

Dalag ang ina

Had to stare at it for a long time to get the message XD

This artwork is one of the most contemplated in the gallery. You have to see it to enjoy its beauty.

Bathala by Dave Lock. Loved this. Can't stare at it long enough because it's a little bit creepy.

The Philippine Remembrall! First time I knew about her, and I really want every Filipino to know this goddess.

Mishaps in the Forest by Jim Orencio. One of my favorites.

The Crux of Things

As was stated in the description, 'the exhibit connects with the nature of pseudo religions and myths'. I would love every Filipino to see this for enlightenment. :)

The Apparition

Made of shaving cream! Amazeballs!

Divine Intervention. I love what it's trying to say. Rrr, I'm a fan now, Sir Ernest Concepcion.

I'm encouraging you, too, to visit for pure awesomesauce with lots of culture appreciation~! It is worth it, I tell you.

The museum is open Tuesdays-Saturdays, 9:00am-5:00pm.

Animorphs 30 Day Challenge: Ending

Day 30: Thoughts on the ending

Right after I finished the book, this was my reaction:

The ending sucks.I need fucking closure; why couldn't she just give it to me??? I hate what happened to Ax... I can take it if this is ASOIAF because I already anticipated it. But to Animorphs and to an Animorph, it kills my feels! My feels are all over my days and I can't function, not until I find a good fan fiction that saves Ax from that The One. And Jake... starting from when Cassie gave the cube to Tom, I'm disturbed on why he couldn't forgive himself and move on. From then on, my mind is wondering if Marco should be thrown out of my most favorite character ever and replace him with Jake. (But seriously, Marco, if you ever happened to be alive, IRL, please I need to know you.) I'm not even starting on Tobias here.
Oh Tobias. The world created by Applegate was never for you. Come here, let me hug you. Was he never meant to be happy? I suppose so.Yes, yes, Applegate is such a great author to generate many feels from me and other fans (goodreads). Yes, the whole series is AWESOME in so many ways. For readers who can take new things as positive, this is a goddamn good ending. But I'm not, as of now. Lacking of self-help books still, I'm selfish. I need closure. So, 4 out of 5 if I'll consider myself. But as a general reader, damn, this is perfect.
But after I read K.A. Applegate's explanation re ending, I calmed down and admit that it is indeed a good way to end a war story. The characters' wounds that hurt us readers so much are portrayed perfectly. It made me think that Rachel's better off dead because she can't survive all her wounds after. You can never love wars after reading this, and that's the goal.

Animorphs 30 Day Challenge - Day 29: Howler

Day Twenty-Nine: Your favourite alien species.

Did you read 1984 by George Orwell? There's this part of the book where the protagonists, all along thinking that they were alone in the room, said "We are the dead". But then someone responded, "You are the dead". That scene, while reading it, was the most chilling but/most terrific thing that I've read.
I associate that feeling to Howlers, too.

Howlers, the alien species made by the evil Crayak, are made to play a game - killing game. They are these babies that thought the poor thing that they're killing is a toy that they must play with.

I applaud K.A. Applegate for creating them. What they're doing was sick, but they're innocent; they don't know that killing is a vile thing to do, so you don't know how/what to feel for them.

I love Animorphs for all the mindfucks it gave me, and the Howlers definitely did this to me too, that's why they're my favorite aliens.

Finds: Cheap Children's Books Part II

I am so happy for my friends Teacher Wang and Teacher Rej for being part of Teach for the Philippines
I attended one of their presentations and I really like their mission and vision for our dear country (follow the link for more info)

That's why when I saw Teacher Wang's request for books (and other things like coloring books, coloring materials, manila papers, erasers, etc), I sent her a message instantly!

I truly believe that books can shape one's mind, so I grabbed the chance. Thing is, I'm not rich enough to buy brand new ones, so I went to Booksale Alphaland branch to get me some Php5 books!

I found some Php 5 treasure but I also found good ones worth Php 10 (and one worth Php70), so I have to buy them too. Actually there are many good ones worth >5 but, yeah.

Here are the precious ones:
Poems for Two Voices - This would be perfect for an English class.

Night at the Museum Spot the Difference - Because books can be fun with pictures, too.

Yoyo book - Tricks! Everyone loves yoyo tricks.

Mad Libs - For the kids to have fun with words!
I like this book because of the image below

:) The kids would know the meaning of the words because of the story! I love it!

Winnie the Pooh. Because Winnie the Pooh :)

Look at the artwork! That's why I bought ...

Angelina's Halloween

Golden Compass - Hoping that they'll love the plot and read the whole book

Secrets of the Alchemist Dar - Fantasy is what I really loved when I was young. Actually, up until now. And this book has loads of it.

I like it here at school - Easy-to-read and relatable poems are inside...

...like this one

Catch Jo's Cat - This is like Where's Waldo. And I love Where's Waldo when I was a kid. Had to buy this instead of WW because of the price difference XD

This is the Php 70 book. Booksale knows how to price their items. Bought it because I know it's hard to draw sea creatures.

Remember the Alamo - For the kids to know that wars are dumb. :P

Enjoyed hunting for these books! Feel free to comment if you also want to donate! :D
